20-Days Wildlife Photography Trip Across India with USA Participants: Kaziranga, Manas, Dhikala & Sattal

India is one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations for wildlife and nature photography. Our recent 20-day wildlife photography trip across Kaziranga, Manas, Dhikala and Sattal brought together an inspiring group of participants from the United States. The group included corporate executives, passionate wildlife enthusiasts and even family members of well-known Indian film personalities.

This carefully curated trip offered guests the opportunity to experience some of India’s most spectacular wildlife destinations while also learning the art of wildlife photography in real field conditions.

What followed was an unforgettable journey across diverse landscapes — from the floodplains of Assam to the forests of Uttarakhand — filled with remarkable wildlife sightings, cultural experiences and lifelong memories.

Arrival in Guwahati – Gateway to Northeast India

Our trip began as the group arrived in Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast India. From here we travelled through the lush countryside of Assam towards the legendary Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site globally renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity.

For many of the USA participants, this was their first visit to India’s wilderness, and the excitement was evident as we began exploring one of the most iconic wildlife reserves in the world.

Kaziranga National Park – Land of the Great One-Horned Rhinoceros

Kaziranga National Park

We spent four incredible days exploring Kaziranga National Park, widely known as the stronghold of the Great One-Horned Rhinoceros.

The safaris delivered spectacular wildlife encounters including:

  • Numerous close sightings of one-horned rhinoceroses
  • Herds of wild Asian elephants
  • Rich birdlife including the magnificent Great Hornbill
  • Vast floodplains and tall grasslands full of wildlife activity

Our group stayed at the beautiful IORA – The Retreat Kaziranga, one of the finest wildlife resorts in the region.

Participants also experienced the rich culture of Assam through authentic Assamese cuisine and traditional cultural performances, making the stay even more memorable.

Kaziranga provided the perfect beginning to this remarkable wildlife trip.

Exploring the Wilderness of Manas National Park

Manas National Park

From Kaziranga we continued our journey to the breathtaking landscapes of Manas National Park, another UNESCO World Heritage Site located along the foothills of Bhutan.

Manas is known for its pristine forests, scenic rivers and exceptional biodiversity, offering a quieter and more intimate wildlife experience.

During our stay we explored beautiful grasslands and riverine forests, encountering diverse wildlife and remarkable birdlife. One of the highlights of this part of the trip was spotting the critically endangered Bengal Florican, one of the rarest birds in the world.

Our group stayed at the charming Musa Jungle Retreat, a peaceful property that blends beautifully with the surrounding natural landscape.

Manas offered participants a deeper connection with nature and an opportunity to experience one of India’s most underrated wildlife destinations.

Dhikala – The Legendary Tiger Landscape of Corbett

Jim Corbett National Park

After completing the Northeast leg of the trip, we flew to Delhi and continued our journey to the iconic Dhikala Zone.

Dhikala is considered one of the most spectacular wildlife landscapes in India and one of the finest places in the country to observe tigers in the wild.

During our three-night stay in Dhikala, the group enjoyed thrilling safaris across vast grasslands and river valleys of the Ramganga landscape.

We were fortunate to experience excellent tiger sightings, creating unforgettable moments for the participants. For many of the USA guests, this was their first-ever tiger sighting in the wild, a truly emotional and exhilarating experience.

Several participants also used this opportunity to improve their wildlife photography skills. Through field guidance and discussions, they learned about animal behaviour, anticipation of action, and practical techniques for capturing compelling wildlife images.

Watching participants grow in confidence and creativity was one of the most rewarding parts of the trip.

Sattal – A Birdwatcher’s Paradise in the Himalayas

The final leg of our wildlife trip brought us to the serene forests of Sattal in Uttarakhand.

Sattal is one of India’s most beautiful birding destinations and a paradise for bird photographers. Surrounded by peaceful forest and lakes, the region offers opportunities to observe colourful Himalayan bird species in natural habitats.

Over two wonderful days, participants explored forest trails and spent time photographing birds in the tranquil Himalayan landscape.

The calm surroundings and incredible birdlife made Sattal a perfect way to conclude this extraordinary wildlife trip.

A Memorable Wildlife Trip Across India

Over the course of 20 remarkable days, this group of wildlife enthusiasts from the United States experienced the incredible diversity of India’s natural world.

From rhinos in the grasslands of Assam to tigers in Corbett and vibrant birds in the Himalayan forests, the trip offered a truly immersive wildlife experience.

Participants enjoyed:

  • Close encounters with rhinos, elephants and tigers
  • Rare bird sightings including the Bengal Florican
  • Wildlife photography learning in real field conditions
  • Cultural experiences and authentic regional cuisine
  • Meaningful connections with fellow wildlife lovers

For many guests, this journey marked their first rhino sighting, their first tiger encounter, and their first deep experience with India’s wild landscapes.
